bachelor party

im leaving for las vegas today for my friend josh's bachelor party.
we'll be staying at the hard rock hotel and plan on renting out a cabana tomorrow!!!

im pretty excited, as this will only be the 3rd bachelor party i've participated in.
(ernie's, mine, and now josh's)
and to top it all off, it's in vegas!

i just hope my liver and my bank still love me after this weekend.

LENT: Day 2

so far so good. granted, yesterday was only day 2 of this experience. it was mari's dad's birthday and they had a small dinner at the talavera house. mari's mom brought chinese food and some filipino food. the usual spread. it was really tough to eat all of that food without rice. thank god she also bought some noodles, so that really saved me. i've got to start altering my meal/eating habits if im gonna be successful.

my parents have some comps they need to use before the end of the month at barona. they're taking us there tonight to eat at the buffet. but we can't eat meat! so it hope they at least have crab legs tonight. ahhhhhhh.

this weekend is gonna be pretty busy. tonight: barona buffet, then jinah's going away party. saturday: football practice, father-in-law's birthday party at 2pm, (maybe) prospect in la jolla at 9pm. sunday: church, then vavi football game at 330pm. on top of all of this, i can't eat rice! haha

LENT: Day 1

so this year for lent, i decided i'd give up rice for lent. now for those of you that know me well, i love me some rice!! i eat it at practically every meal (but can you find a filipino who doesn't?). i've tried giving up rice for lent before but failed miserably. i think i only lasted about 2 weeks, or maybe not even that long (thats what she said......) so this year, i'm determined to go the whole 40 days without eating a single grain of rice.

lent isn't just about giving something up. i also think that its a great time for us to really think about how we can make ourselves better people. i was at the ash wednesday mass last night, and the priest made a good point on the symbolism of the ashes on your forehead. he basically said that it represented our faults and failures as a person....and it would ultimately be up to us to make ourselves better. so i think i'm also going to use this time to figure out what i can do to make myself a better person, and to find out what i can do to be a better person/friend/brother/husband to everyone around me. here we go.....

last friday, mari and i went to the del mar race track for the first time. we went with some friends from work and met at my co-worker anthony's apartment, which is just up the hill from the race track. we got to anthony's around 230 and first post wasnt until 4, so we pregamed it a little bit at his pad, then walked down in time for the 4th race.

Beers were super expensive at the track so we just bought sodas and mixed em with alcohol that we snuck in (cheap!). But this would all be for nothing since the del mar racetrack became san diego's largest hotbox that evening. Friday's at the track meant 4 o'clock Fridays, and there was always a concert, and the performers for the evening were the wailers! as in, bob marley and the wailers. bob marley himself didnt make it, i think he was sick or something...but the concert was dope nonetheless. the wailers pretty much played all of his songs, along with some of their original songs. as soon as they started playing, 90% of the crowd started smoking cigarettes, but it was weird because it didnt smell like cigarettes, i dont know, but i left there feeling reallllly good.

solid 3.

went to belo this saturday with joel, jerry, and fred. it was pretty fun, til we started getting free drinks at the bar. after that, the rest of the night was one big blur. fred and jerry picked me up from my house dressed in all black, and apparently nobody bothered to send me the memo. i was in a nice white shirt and jeans, had my shirt been any other color, i would have been good to go, but i didnt want to be the odd guy in the group, so i changed into a black shirt. we picked up joel, then stopped by celena's house, then we were off. we get to belo and that place was as dead as heath ledger hanging out with bernie mac at a isaac hayes concert. it was fuckin dead. so me and joel start downing the drinks. 2 jack and cokes later, joel comes up to me and says, "hey, the bartender just gave me free drinks, and she said to come back in 15 minutes." and at this point, id say we were both on a good one already. so 15 minutes pass and we go back to the bar, and the bartender hooks it up with 2 rumple mintze shots. at that point, i knew it was gonna be the end of me (and possibly joel). so we take the shots, grabbed some beers, and take off into the club. we probably should have just stayed at the bar because things didnt go too well after that. lets just say i should make better choices and wait for better lighting when it comes to dancing, and on top of that, some people got my phone number, who probably shouldnt have gotten it in the first place. i guess im much nicer when im drunk. i hope i didnt hand out cash to people either. geez. after leaving the club, we go to conching's, and joel goes yackie chan on us and vomits on the plaza blvd offramp. i was hoping i wasnt next, cuz we had pretty much the same amount to drink, except he had one more shot than i did. thank god i escaped the hurtin that he was goin through. conchings had the usual crowd, we end up leaving because no one really wanted to eat. i think we went there just out of habit. haha. so we go to the jack in the box down the street, and when joel orders his food, he realizes his credit card and his license are missing and he probably left it at belo. doh! i hope he finds his stuff.

sunday morning was pretty difficult for me. i was pretty hungover, but i didnt have a headache, i was more dizzy than anything. so i just stayed home all day, tried to recollect the events that happened the previous night (and hating myself for this), and watched the olympics.

lesson learned. only 7's and up.

success.

after being crippled for just about 2 months (since may 9, 2008), i finally went running yesterday. i was playing football and severely sprained my left ankle and possibly even tore some ligaments. i was on crutches for almost a month, and even got to ride a wheelchair for a weekend. so its been a pretty tough past couple of months, having to deal with all the soreness and the hassle of only having one good leg to walk on (this sounds pretty trivial, when compared to people who have permanent disabilities, and in no way is my experience nearly as close as to what they go through) which kind of reminds me of that saved by the bell episode where zach has interests in this chick in a wheelchair.....anyway, so i ran about a mile at the park with mari, with the help of my bionic ankle(brace) which i purchased from eastbay, and i felt pretty good afterwards. my ankle is still sore, but its not more than the usual soreness, but it just felt good to actually do something good for my body....its been a while since ive done that.....now if i could only drag my butt to the gym....

i love lamp.

i have another dental appointment today after work. i hope i dont need a root canal, because if there is one thing i fear, its root canals. ive never had one so i dont know what its like, but i have yet to hear a positive story about root canals.

on monday, mari and i went to frys and bought a new samsung 40 inch lcd tv. that shit is bananas. i love it more than anything in the world, even mari. haha. the only thing is, it stays in mari's room, but at least now, i have more incentive to stay/sleep at mari's house. hahaha.

happy st. patty's day

my parents ordered the pacquiao fight this weekend and we invited the family (mari's parents, iris' parents, and the talaveras) to come watch it with us. everyone brought something so there was so much food. but it was fun to be around everyone and the kids, since its rare that we all get together. pacquiao won, but i think he should have finished off marquez when he had the chance, and what was up with that one judge who scored the fight in favor of marquez? id like to know what fight he was watching, because it wasnt even close.

im in the market for a new tv, and we went to the north island and 32nd st on sunday to go look for one . ended up not finding one, but i will stop by frys today after work to see if i can pick one up there.

i think im starting to develop carpal tunnel syndrome....i think i should see the doctor. and start using my left hand more.

mission accomplished

mari and i went to visit my god-daughter kaleigh yesterday after work. i taught her to say a new word. i taught her how to say the word "snack." except when she says "snack," it sounds exactly like "shit."

my sister, who is finishing up her last semester at cal, sent me an email yesterday, which is pretty unusual since i hardly hear from her because she is pretty busy. she told me that the older brother of one her best friends died unexpectedly in a motorcycle accident yesterday. her friend told her that she really didnt talk to her brother before he died.

she told my brother and i, "my whole conversation with her made me think of you both. i can't imagine what she's going through. and i can't imagine what my life would be like without either of you...or mom and dad. i always tell mom and dad that i love them after i talk to them...but since i don't really talk to you guys over the phone, i just wanted to say 'i love you' to both of you."

dirty weekend

went to dnb's last night with mari. we met up with joel cuz he came straight from work. surprisingly, dnb's was not packed with AZN's last night, which is pretty rare for a thursday night. on a regular, half of mira mesa is there and the morse high class of 1997 is holding an event in the ballroom. we ran into a guy that we went to high school with(ron) and he works there. he hooked it up with some free games so that was cool.

so mari's dad just got a new porsche last night, and i got to drive it for a little bit. never in my life did i think that i would get to sit in, let alone drive a porsche. it was a pretty fun drive, we took it to 100 mph in 4th gear down olympic parkway, which is pretty stupid, but it was fuckin fun. im glad that her dad got the car, and he deserves it, but it was sorta bittersweet for mari. this all stems back to when mari graduated this past spring. basically, mari's dad bought mona a mercedes benz at around the same time as mari's graduation. they ended up giving mari a pretty decent sum of money. but in mari's eyes, it should have been the other way around (her parents should have gotten her the car) since she busted her butt trying to finish school, she was graduating, and mona was still unsure of when she would be finishing school. this really upset mari, and for a while she was pretty angry at her parents and at mona. i guess this is also part of the deal of being a twin, there's always gonna be some sort of jealousy/rivalry. mari and mona's relationship is not the usual relationship twins have. im sure that they love each other to death, but sometimes these two love to butt heads and get under each other's skin, and im sure the whole car situation didnt help things either. here's what the car situation is like in their family: dad: new porsche, mom: new benz, mona: new benz, mari: old toyota 4runner. so if you cant tell me who got the short end of that stick, then i dont know what to tell you. of course, i may be a little biased since she is my fiancee. sorry if it sounds superficial and shallow by complaining about a stupid car, but it is what it is.

mo money mo problems

i just got my "year-end" review today. i thought it went well, considering i was dreading having to go through with it. but im glad to have that out of the way.

fred and i are gonna meet ernie for lunch today. apparently, he works just down the street from us, but we only found out about this now. this is a classic ernie maneuver, where he's been around this whole time, but we dont know until later on in life. oh well, i still love the guy to death, even though we hardly see him anymore. i know he has more responsibilities now that he's married and has a child to look after.

we had a meeting yesterday for the people who are going to the (company subsidized) mammoth trip thats scheduled for the weekend of april 5th. i really wanted to go, until i realized that sportsfest is that same weekend, and i dont really want to miss that.

mari and i paid a visit to a florist last thursday. we went there with a budget of about $1500, which is on the low end. i didnt realize flowers for weddings were so expensive. theres so many things/people that need flowers. lets just say that our budget wasnt quite big enough, but i guess it is what it is. i guess i didnt mind as much since our original estimate was really low.

kelvins grad party was on saturday. got to see some kids from school i havent seen in a while. (kelvin, peter, and christian). [marc and lj were there, but i see them at work. and april was there, but i see her every now and then] i was gonna go to marcos' brother's bachelor party but i got out a little later than expected. oh well, i heard it was mediocre, at best. =P

i had a dental appointment last night and i was just going in for a cleaning. most people absolutely hate going to the dentist. lucky for me, my dentist is also my uncle. so that makes the visit a lot less stressful for me. ive had a chipped tooth for about a year now, and it one of the back teeth, so i dont really notice it until food gets lodged in there. turns out that chipped tooth ended up being a pretty serious cavity. so right now, it has a temporary filling that has medicine to help the tooth heal, and i have to go back in one month to re-assess the tooth. if it doesnt heal or if the tooth starts causing discomfort, theres a chance im gonna have to have a root canal. on top of all of that, turns out that my wisdom teeth are growing horizontally, instead of vertically like most people. so i might have to get those removed eventually. talk about a horrible day at the dentists office. at least i got to see my uncle.

kate hudson is hot

i didnt get a chance to blog yesterday because i got caught up in my work and i completely forgot. so ill do a quick recap of my weekend. on saturday, i went to work for a few hours, then met up with the team in la jolla for a scrimmage. what a waste of time. we beat these guys pretty easily(not too sound cocky or anything) but lets just say it wasnt even close. i ended up having a couple of passes deflected and an interception. after the game, mari and i went home, washed up (each other....jk!) and went to watch that movie with kate hudson, fool's gold. i thought it was a pretty funny movie. and it helped that kate hudson looks really good in a bikini, and she is really pretty. after the movie, we went to the brewhouse at eastlake. the food and beer was excellent, too bad the service was horrible and really slow. on sunday, we went with iris, anthony, and kaleigh to sea world. mari brought her nieces and nephew along. i had a fun time, we all got fun cards, so we can go back later this year. kaleigh and mari's 2 yr old niece makeila really enjoyed being there, they loved the shows and it made it seem much easier to look after them. i had to take makeila to the potty and she just started potty training so that was an interesting experience. she ended up putting her hand on the toilet seat in the stall and i had to wash her hands a couple times just to be safe.

morning dew

im at work right now, on a saturday. i should be doing work but im too lazy to get that started. i'll probably start my work around 730.....after 2 hours of being here. we have a scrimmage today at la jolla high school at 10 am. it should be fun to play another team. its been a while since league ended. and we need to iron out some kinks on both offense and defense. kaleigh came over to play yesterday. i fed her 1/3 of a small cupcake at around 830pm, and she was bouncing off the walls right after. i have never seen her like that, it was pretty funny. mari bought her a barney dvd for valentines day and we watched it with her. i was expecting it to be like a regular barney dvd/show type thing, but it was an actual movie, with acting and other stuff that real movies had. it was weird, but kaleigh seemed to enjoy it so thats all that matters. the movie reminded me of the sesame street movie, follow that bird. when i was younger, i would watch that movie almost everyday. i even bought the dvd a couple of years ago so i could watch it again, its probably in the top 3 of my favorite movies. i even dressed up as big bird for halloween one year. i think ill go dig up that dvd and watch it this weekend. maybe i still have that big bird costume....
