surprise!

im stuck here at work once again without much to do. i finished all my work at around 10am, and the time is now 240pm. ive just been browsing the internet and sitting here trying to figure out what what to blog about. i think this blog thing is pretty difficult because its so hard to get past the writers block, but i think im simply overanalyzing the issue.

a lot of people around me have been telling me that the new will smith movie, i am legend, is pretty cool. i think ill check it out this weekend. possibly next week, when i have the entire week off. score!

speaking of scoring, i came home pretty late last night, probably around 11, and as i walked into my house, i hear some tapping (like a woodpecker) coming from the living room. wtf? so as i enter the living room, my brother is sitting there playing rock band on the 360. he looks at me and says "merry christmas." apparently, my brother and sister bought it for me for christmas, but i guess my brother took the liberty of opening it and testing it out for me. which is fine with me, cuz it gives me more time to play. for those of you who dont know what rock band is, its a video game that's pretty similar to guitar hero, except you get a guitar, a drum set, and a mic. hence the title, rock band. so i got to play it, and needless to say, it was pretty awesome, but challenging at the same time.

did you know that the new lead singer for journey is a filipino? i think his name is arnel pineda. look it up.

africa, by toto. watch it.

feliz navidad

ive been pretty busy today, well not really, but i felt like i was super busy because i was away from my desk for almost half the day. our company had its annual holiday luncheon today, and they catered lunch for the entire building. they served a traditional holiday meal: turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, etc. overall, the food was good (and it was free!) and i throughly enjoyed it.
after we ate, we got to enjoy a concert put on by the Cee Gees, which is a band that is made up of people that work here. fred is the drummer, and the 2 of the vocalists are vanessa and andie. they all did an awesome job, which is what i expected since they were able to leave during work hours to rehearse. (jealous!) so basically they got to rehearse and get paid to do so. so they performed christmas songs and everyone enjoyed it. including me.
i gotta cut it short cuz i get to go home soon. i gotta make like a tree and get outta here.

H20 audio

shanel' s blog about her diabetic cat reminded me of my friend mike, who is also diabetic. mike has this pretty crazy insulin pump which is this little electronic device that houses a small vial of insulin and is connected directly to his body at all times. and by connected, i mean its like a little needle (almost like an IV) thats hooked onto his skin, i think its connected on his side or back, somewhere near his kidneys. so basically, he checks his blood sugar levels periodically(by pricking his finger and feeding this sample into another little gadget), and based on this reading, he adjusts his insulin pump so he receives the proper amount of insulin.
we were on tour with the santa clara vanguard in 2003. for those of you who arent band nerds, scv is a drum and bugle corps (marching band on steroids) that tours the country from may to august, competing against other corps. and we basically travel from city to city by bus and sleep/stay on gym floors at high schools. it was probably one of the most challenging/rewarding things ive ever done, since our schedule consisted of 6 hour rehearsals during the day in 100+ degree weather, a show in the evening, and a long bus ride at night to the next city. repeat. i could write a whole blog about my experiences, but that would take too long. maybe later. back to mike....
so we were somewhere in texas and we had just finished rehearsing and we (me, mike, and our friend chris) were in the gym about to hit the showers. so this guy, allen (who is in the guard, and probably lacks the common sense gene) comes up to mike and asks him, "what is that thing on your hip?" (referring to his insulin pump). mike paused for a moment, trying to think of what to say to allen, since nobody had ever asked him before. with the straightest face, he replied "it's my mp3 player." allen just looks back at mike, says "oh. cool. what songs do you have on there?" mike just tells him "just a bunch of journey." allen nodded his head in approval and walked away. when chris and i heard this, we laughed our asses off. he actually believed that his pump, which was clearly connected to his back(since mike wasnt wearing a shirt), was an mp3 player. so the whole summer, whenever allen would see mike before (or even during) showering, he would ask mike what he was listening to, and mike would have to make something up, just to keep the joke going.
to this day, whenever i see mike, i ask him how his mp3 player is holding up.

couch potato

the wish lists for our secret santa came out yesterday. i thought it was pretty funny what my brother put down on his list. he listed the usual stuff (clothes, guitar hero, stuff for snowboarding, etc.) but the funniest part was what he asked for at the bottom of his list. he put : "girlfriend (must be hot! no dudes, shemales, or anything of that sort.)" i just thought it was hilarious because he usually isnt open to us about dating, and its been a while since he's had a girlfriend, so this caught me off guard. haha. well if youre reading this, and you are a hot, single girl, and not a shemale(important!), my brother is about 5'6", dark hair, brown eyes, and has an engineering degree from ucla. holla!
i woke up extra early this morning(about 4am) because i couldnt sleep, and got to work at a pretty decent time(655am). when i got up, i was torn between playing call of duty 4, or watching the nfl replay of the chargers vs titans game thats on my dvr. i chose to play the video game for about an hour. i will watch the game later, as well as this week's amazing race episode. my brother and i was watching superbad last night, but i fell asleep. so i gotta finish watching that too. ive got some major catching up to do!
'tis all for now. haveaniceday.

ime mun muna lutka!

we had the final regular season game this past saturday. we beat this team 20-6 even though we only had about half of our team. we were so thin that i even got to play some offense....and i scored a touchdown! haha. it was funny too, because i was playing running back, we were about 5 yds from the goal line, and i went out, caught the ball and juked this old man on the other team in order to get into the end zone. it was pretty funny because he dove for my flags and completely missed. my friends said the ref was going to call a penalty on me because "i made him look bad" oh well, my only glory for the season. next saturday, we have the playoffs and the championship game (if/when we make it). if you're not busy, come out and support us, our game starts at 1130 at robb field.
after the game, i went to gary(37) and marcus' (17) birthday party. it was cool, mari's family, a bunch of gary and justine's friends, and some of marcus' friends were there. my dad bought a keg because he didnt know what to get gary. so we had some fun with that.
Family party+keg=family keg stands!!!!
my cousin timo from finland was also visiting us (its pretty crazy that i actually have cousins from finland) so we brought him with us to the party, and it was cool seeing him discover "how we roll" here in the states. we even convinced him to do some grey goose shots with us and he even did a keg stand. in exchange, he taught us some curse words in finnish. good fun.
on sunday, went to disneyland with mari, marcus, and hannah (marcus' girfriend). left san diego around 9 am, got back home around 9 pm, so it was a short, but fun trip. ive never really gotten to know hannah, so i didnt know what to expect. turns out, she is a really cool person. she's pretty funny and weird, but she's a lot of fun to be around...i approve.
its pretty cold in my area here at work. whenever someone comes by to visit, they say its colder here than it is back at their desk. i think im gonna build a fire in my trashcan.....
